French Ligue 1’s special tribute to Tinotenda Kadewere delights Zimbabwe fans

French top-flight league Ligue 1 has honoured Zimbabwean forward Tinotenda Kadewere by reflecting on his memorable spell in France.

The league shared a collage of Kadewere wearing the Olympique Lyonnais jersey across its social media platforms.

Ligue 1 captioned the post: “Zimbabwe’s very own shining in Ligue 1. Flashback to Tino Kadewere’s Olympique Lyonnais days.”

The tribute reminded fans of Kadewere’s impressive rise from Zimbabwe to one of Europe’s biggest football stages.

From Le Havre star to Lyon standout

Kadewere moved to France in 2018 after signing for Le Havre. He quickly established himself as one of Ligue 2’s most dangerous forwards.

Moreover, he finished the 2019/20 campaign as the division’s leading scorer. His outstanding performances soon attracted interest from bigger clubs.

As a result, Olympique Lyonnais secured his signature. He later represented the club in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.

Lasting legacy in French football

Kadewere also enjoyed a spell with Nantes before beginning a new chapter in Greece.

In 2025, he completed a move to Aris Thessaloniki after several seasons in French football.

Although he has since left France, Ligue 1’s latest tribute highlighted his lasting impact. It also recognised the memorable moments he created during his successful journey in the country.
