Govt Sets How Much Grade 7, Form Four And Upper Six Students Will Pay For Vacation School
The Government has set the dates and fees for August vacation school for Grade 7, Form Four and Upper Six students, giving parents a clear guide on when lessons will take place and how much they will cost.
Vacation School Runs From 7 To 20 August
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education approved vacation school for the three examination classes from 7 to 20 August 2026, covering 10 working days.
Schools must not hold lessons on Heroes Day, 11 August, and Defence Forces Day, 12 August. They may use a Saturday or Sunday to make up for the two lost days, depending on their day of worship.
The programme cannot continue beyond 20 August.
Govt Sets Vacation School Fees
The Ministry has also capped the fees schools can charge.
Grade 7 students will pay US$2 (about R33) per learning area. Form Four students will pay US$3 (about R50), while Upper Six students will pay US$5 (about R83) per learning area.
Boarding students will pay an additional US$5 (about R83) per day for upkeep.
Schools have been directed not to charge above the approved amounts and must issue receipts for payments.
The figures above use the requested approximate exchange rate of US$1 = R16.50.
Parents Also Given Term Dates
The Government’s vacation school programme comes ahead of the third term, which is scheduled to begin on 8 September 2026 and end on 3 December 2026.
Parents therefore have the key dates and approved charges for the August programme as schools prepare examination candidates for the next stage of the academic year.
