Tip-Off Leads to Search at Police Premises

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the conviction stems from events that unfolded on 29 December 2025, when detectives in Gwanda received information that the officer was allegedly keeping illegal drugs in his room.

The following day, law enforcement officers conducted a search of Maposa’s room, which is located within police premises.

Dagga and Drug Paraphernalia Recovered

During the search, officers recovered dagga with an estimated street value of ZiG120, along with a J-pipe commonly used for smoking crystal methamphetamine. The items were seized as exhibits, and Maposa was arrested at the scene.

He was later charged and convicted of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

NPAZ Reaffirms Commitment to Accountability

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said it remains committed to working closely with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to ensure offenders are brought to justice, regardless of their position.

The NPAZ will continue to work tirelessly with law enforcement and the judiciary to arrest offenders and secure convictions,” the authority said.

Another Drug Conviction Recorded in Gwanda

Meanwhile, in a separate case, the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court also convicted 28-year-old Sithembiso Sibanda for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The conviction arose from an incident on 17 December 2025, when police detectives on patrol in West Nicholson B Mine received information that Sibanda was allegedly selling dagga from her tuck shop.

Officers acted on the tip-off and proceeded to her residence, where a search of her bedroom led to the recovery of 12 sachets of dagga weighing approximately 0.41 kilogram. She was immediately arrested.

Sibanda was sentenced to pay a fine of US$200 or serve two months in prison in default of payment.

The NPAZ reiterated that no individual is above the law and warned that those involved in drug trafficking will be brought to justice. Members of the public have been urged to report drug-related activities as the fight against substance abuse remains a national priority.
