A Harare man accused of taking part in three armed robberies has been remanded in custody.
Witness Hlongwane faces three counts of armed robbery involving cash and property worth more than US$500 000.
Prosecutors allege that Hlongwane worked with a gang during separate robberies between June and July.
Home invasion starts alleged robbery spree
The first robbery allegedly happened on June 29 at a Harare home.
According to the allegations, Hlongwane and his accomplices arrived armed with pistols.
They allegedly broke into the property and stole a safe containing US$5 000.
The gang also allegedly took other valuables from the complainant.
Two days later, the suspects allegedly targeted N Richards Graniteside.
They reportedly used explosives to force open a safe at the premises.
The gang allegedly escaped with more than US$39 000 and over 74 000 ZiG.
They also allegedly took R750 during the robbery.
Mount Pleasant robbery involved luxury watch
The third alleged robbery happened on July 20 at Heliconvest Company in Mount Pleasant.
Hlongwane and his accomplices allegedly targeted several people at the company.
They allegedly stole cash and various valuables during the incident.
Among the reported valuables was a Patek Philippe wristwatch worth US$50 000.
The suspects also allegedly stole a safe containing more than 370 000 ZiG.
Police later recovered some of the allegedly stolen property.
Investigators also recovered two vehicles linked to the alleged robberies.
Police arrested Hlongwane on September 25.
He allegedly made indications that showed investigators how the offences were committed.
However, Hlongwane remains an accused person, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
The court remanded him in custody pending a bail application at the High Court.
He is expected to return to court on October 13.
