A major fire erupted at a building in Harare’s central business district on Wednesday night, sending thick smoke into the sky.
The blaze struck near the intersection of Bank Street and Cameroon Street, attracting attention across the city.
Meanwhile, videos and photographs shared online captured the intensity of the fire as flames engulfed the building.
The incident raised concerns about potential damage to neighbouring properties. However, the City of Harare confirmed that firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading.

The City of Harare Fire Brigade responded quickly and brought the situation under control.
Their intervention prevented the fire from reaching surrounding buildings, reducing the danger to nearby properties and residents.
Furthermore, the brigade’s swift action helped avert a potentially wider emergency in the busy commercial district.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the fire. Investigations or further assessments may establish how the incident started.

City of Harare Corporate Communications Manager Stanley Gama praised firefighters for their professional conduct and rapid response.
He also highlighted the brigade’s training standards, which he said have earned it recognition among organisations operating firefighting equipment.
“Our Fire Brigade does so well because they are well trained and very professional, which explains why they train all other organisations in Zimbabwe that operate fire fighting facilities,” he said.
The incident once again highlighted the importance of rapid emergency responses in densely built commercial areas.
However, the cause of Wednesday night’s blaze remains unknown, with no further details provided by the city.
