Police Warn After Prophet Mellontik Claims National Sports Stadium Sits Above Gold Deposits

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned against publishing unverified claims on social media after Prophet Orasi Mellontik alleged that gold deposits lie beneath Harare’s National Sports Stadium and Warren Hills Cemetery.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said people who circulate unverified information online risk provoking reactions that could put lives in danger, warning that those found committing the stated offence would be arrested.

Mellontik’s claims have also drawn criticism from Evangelist Chidziva, who called on prophets to consult relevant authorities before making public pronouncements about national issues.

Prophet Challenges Geologists To Disprove Gold Claims

Prophet Mellontik made the claims in a social media post in which he alleged that gold fields were located approximately 15 metres beneath the National Sports Stadium.

He also identified Warren Hills Cemetery as another area he believes contains gold deposits, challenging geologists to investigate his assertions.

In his post, the prophet wrote:

“Zimbabwe did you (know*)That the national sports stadium sits on top of unidentified gold fields 15 m below the surface, warren hills, cemetery are all gold fields,

Geologists survey prove me wrong.”

Police Warn Against Unverified Social Media Posts

Responding to the claims, Nyathi urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing information online, particularly when the claims could trigger public reactions.

Speaking to H-Metro, the police spokesperson said social media posts containing unverified information could have consequences beyond the online platforms where they originate.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to warn people posting unverified information on social media,” said Comm Nyathi.

“Such posts may incite people into reacting to the claims thereby endangering people’s lives.

“Let it be known that it is a criminal offence to post unverified information and anyone found doing that will be arrested.”

The warning comes amid concerns about the potential consequences of circulating claims involving public facilities and other nationally significant sites.

Evangelist Calls For Prophets To Consult Authorities

Evangelist Chidziva also criticised the manner in which prophets communicate claims involving national interests, arguing that such matters should be handled responsibly.

He urged Prophet Mukanhairi and other religious figures to approach the relevant authorities before sharing sensitive claims with their followers or publishing them on social media.

“His prophecy is a serious threat to the security of the National Sports Stadium considering the claims of the existence of the precious yellow metal.

“Mukanhairi and any other prophet must be schooled in how they communicate their so-called prophecies and show maturity.

“National issues must be addressed through the national leaders instead of seeking attention by posting on social media or sharing such information to please church members.

“Prophets must attend prophetic schools and learn how and when to communicate their messages.”
