Harare Man Uses Nephew’s US$2,100 For Sports Betting
A Harare man turned US$2,100 entrusted to him for delivery into a sports betting bankroll before disappearing from the city.
Tadious Mutevhe, 40, failed to deliver the money to its intended recipient after receiving it from his employer, who is also his nephew.

Money Meant For Delivery
The incident allegedly occurred on June 25, 2026, in Harare’s central business district.
According to the State, Kudakwashe Munetsi handed Mutevhe US$2,100 to deliver to Takunda Mahachi in Avondale.
Mutevhe was working as Munetsi’s assistant at the time.
However, instead of completing the delivery, he allegedly diverted the money for personal use.
The court heard that Mutevhe used the funds for sports betting.

Alleged Disappearance From Harare
Munetsi later demanded the money after it was not delivered to Mahachi.
Mutevhe allegedly failed to account for the funds and repeatedly gave excuses when asked about the money.
He allegedly disappeared from Harare as the pressure to account for the funds continued.
Munetsi eventually reported the matter to the police, resulting in Mutevhe’s arrest.
US$1,000 Recovered
The total amount involved in the case was US$2,100.
Police managed to recover US$1,000, leaving US$1,100 unaccounted for.
The allegations have now landed Mutevhe before the courts on a charge of theft of trust property.
Mutevhe Pleads Guilty
Mutevhe appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
The magistrate remanded him to today for sentencing.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyavaviri represented the State.
