Harare Man Uses Political Party Excuse Twice To Get Chicken Inn Meals Without Paying
A Harare man used the same excuse twice to obtain meals from Chicken Inn without paying, claiming his political party would settle the bills.
Nevan Nyarugwe, 52, walked away with two meals worth a combined US$12 after assuring the outlet that payment would come from the political party.
The incidents happened within a week at a Chicken Inn outlet along Samora Machel Avenue.

First Meal Goes Unpaid
The first incident occurred on July 31 around midday.
According to H-Metro, Nyarugwe approached the outlet and ordered a three-piece chicken meal worth US$9.
He reportedly told the outlet’s representative, Rocky Sam, that he wanted to eat and that his political party would cover the cost.
He was given the meal but left without paying.
The court heard that Nyarugwe did not return to settle the bill, despite knowing that payment was required immediately.
The US$9 meal was never recovered.
He Returned For Another Meal
Nyarugwe returned to the same outlet on August 7 at around 12.30pm.
According to the State, he repeated the same claim that his political party would pay for his food.
This time, he received a one-piece meal valued at US$3.
He again left the premises without making payment.
The two incidents left the outlet with an unpaid bill totalling US$12.
Investigations Expose The Claim
Investigations were later conducted into the unpaid meals.
Authorities allegedly discovered that Nyarugwe had misrepresented the arrangement and that no payment was forthcoming from the political party he had referred to.
The matter was subsequently taken to court.
Nyarugwe Sentenced To 20 Days
Nyarugwe appeared before Harare magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of making off without payment.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyavaviri represented the State.
Magistrate Dhlamini sentenced Nyarugwe to 20 days in prison.
However, the sentence was wholly suspended on condition that he pays restitution of the full US$12.
