Harare Mayor Says Residents’ Complaints Are Ruining His Social Life

Harare Residents’ Complaints Affecting My Social Life: Mayor Complains

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume says constant complaints from residents are now affecting his personal and social life as frustrations over service delivery continue to pile up in the capital.

Speaking during a recent full council meeting at Town House, Mafume said he was being overwhelmed by inquiries and complaints from residents, blaming the situation on poor communication within the City of Harare.

According to ZiFM Stereo News, the mayor said the local authority’s communication strategy was exposing him directly to complaints that should be handled through official channels.

Residents Vent Frustrations

The remarks quickly sparked reactions on X, with some residents accusing council officials of failing to address worsening service delivery problems in Harare.

“So he blames ‘poor communication’ not poor service delivery? If service delivery was good, there wouldn’t be as many complaints.”

The user also criticised the city leadership over issues including vendor crackdowns, parking enforcement and the growth of tuckshops across the city.

Another user, @LeaderGeneral1, claimed Harare City Council’s public relations department was distracted by other interests instead of focusing on council communication.

Pressure Mounts On Harare Council

Harare residents have repeatedly raised concerns about refuse collection, water shortages, damaged roads, and burst sewers in several suburbs over the years. The complaints often trend on social media platforms where residents tag council officials directly.

Mafume’s comments come at a time when pressure is mounting on urban councils across Zimbabwe to improve service delivery and communication with ratepayers.

ZiFM Stereo News said the mayor made the remarks during a recent council meeting held at Town House in Harare.
