Locomotive Overturned After Haulage Truck Collides With Train Near Victoria Falls
A haulage truck collided with a locomotive at a level crossing near Mbarira, blocking the railway line between Dete and Victoria Falls.
The impact caused the locomotive to overturn onto its side, leaving it obstructing the track.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) said efforts are underway to clear the damaged section and restore rail traffic.
According to the railway operator, the crash happened after the truck driver allegedly attempted to beat the approaching train at the crossing.

NRZ Warns Motorists Against Racing Trains
The incident has prompted NRZ to renew its warning to motorists using railway crossings.
Drivers are urged to approach level crossings with caution, stop when necessary and give trains the right of way.
NRZ has also cautioned motorists against attempting to race trains, saying such actions can result in serious accidents.
Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Train Service Affected
The blocked railway line has also disrupted this weekend’s passenger service between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.
NRZ said the train will terminate at Dete instead of continuing to Victoria Falls.
Passengers travelling onward to Victoria Falls who are affected by the disruption will receive refunds.
The railway operator apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the accident.

“The NRZ would like to advise the travelling public that the Bulawayo- Victoria Falls passenger train will this weekend terminate at Dete due to a line blockage at Mbarira. This follows a level crossing accident between Dete and Victoria Falls resulting in the blockage of the track. The NRZ will refund passengers proceeding to Victoria Falls affected by this incident. A locomotive fell on its side and is blocking the track after being slammed by a haulage truck at a level crossing. Efforts are underway to clear the track. The NRZ apologises for any inconvenience caused. The accident was due to the haulage truck driver trying to beat the train to the level crossing. NRZ urges motorists not to race race trains at level crossings.”
