Shock As Police Constable Collapses And Dies After Heroes Day Performance
A Zimbabwe Republic Police constable died suddenly after entertaining guests during Heroes Day commemorations in Harare.
Shem Ganda collapsed while seated behind members of the Police Junior Call team at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.
The 57-year-old had performed drills for guests shortly before he fell ill.
He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for emergency medical attention.
However, Ganda was pronounced dead upon arrival.
His sudden death has left colleagues and residents of Chitungwiza shocked.

Police confirm death
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Ganda’s death.
Nyathi said the circumstances surrounding the constable’s death were still being investigated.
He added that Ganda’s body had been taken to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death.
The police expressed condolences to Ganda’s family, friends and colleagues.
Two decades with Junior Call
Ganda was a familiar figure within the Police Junior Call programme.
He had been involved with the initiative for more than two decades.
Colleagues described him as a committed officer who was passionate about working with young people.
His involvement extended beyond police duties, particularly through community policing initiatives.
The Junior Call programme seeks to involve youths in crime prevention and community safety activities.
It also conducts anti-drug campaigns, awareness programmes and prayer sessions.
Ganda was regarded as one of the people who helped drive the programme within the police.

Leaves behind wife and eight children
Ganda’s death has left behind his wife and eight children.
He is expected to be buried at his rural home in Madziwa.
