19-Year-Old Dies Hours After Best Friend Is Killed In Masvingo Road Accident
A 19-year-old man in Masvingo allegedly took his own life after receiving news that his best friend had died in a road accident, in a tragic double loss that unfolded in Chivi and Gutu.
The two incidents happened on the same day, according to police, with the second death occurring hours after the fatal crash involving 18-year-old Bright Charare.
Chivi Teen Killed In Road Accident
Police said Charare, a Form Four learner at Shongamiti High School, was cycling along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road at around 11am.
He was reportedly struck by a Toyota Allion travelling in the same direction near the 8km peg.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the incident to TellZim News.
Charare sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to Ngundu Clinic.
Friend Receives Devastating News
Charare’s best friend, 19-year-old Exodus Muteiwa, was employed as a head boy at Rossal Farm in Chatsworth, Gutu.
Police said Muteiwa received a message informing him of Charare’s death at around 6pm on the same day.
At about 7pm, he reportedly told his employer’s daughter that he wanted to visit his girlfriend. His employer reportedly objected.
When the employer checked his room around 8.30pm, Muteiwa was reportedly missing.
A search continued into the morning of 10 August.
Villagers later found Muteiwa dead at the farm. Police were notified, and his body was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.
Police Confirm Double Tragedy
Inspector Dehwa confirmed both incidents, highlighting how the deaths occurred within hours of each other.
The deaths have left the two families and their communities mourning separately, but over the loss of two close friends on the same day.
