Mkhokeli Dube Returns as Assistant Coach
The Bulawayo giants confirmed Thabo Senong’s appointment in an official statement, outlining a new-look technical team ahead of the upcoming season.
Senong will be assisted by former Highlanders striker Mkhokeli Dube, whose return to the club adds a familiar and popular figure to the technical bench.
“Highlanders Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Thabo Senong as the club’s new Head Coach, alongside the return of Mkhokheli Dube as Assistant Coach,” the club said.
Dube’s appointment is expected to help bridge the gap between the club’s traditions and the new technical direction.
Senong Brings Vast Continental Experience
Senong arrives at Bosso with an impressive résumé across African football. He has previously worked with the South African senior national team, the South Africa Under-20 side and the Lesotho senior men’s national team.
He is also credited with notable success at youth level, including winning the COSAFA Under-20 Championship in 2013, and is widely regarded for his strengths in youth development, tactical organisation and team building.
“Coach Senong brings a wealth of experience at elite level football, having worked with the South African Senior and Under-20 National Teams, the Lesotho Senior Men’s National Team, and achieved notable success at youth level, including winning the COSAFA Cup Under-20 tournament in 2013. His strong background in youth development, tactical organisation, and team building makes him a valuable addition to the Bosso technical team,” the club said, expressing confidence in his ability to guide the team forward.
Club Eyes Rebuild After Disappointing Season
The appointment signals Highlanders’ intention to stabilise and rebuild following an underwhelming campaign that culminated in the departure of Pieter de Jongh at the end of last season.
Club officials believe Senong’s continental exposure, combined with Dube’s deep understanding of Highlanders’ culture and expectations, will lay a solid foundation for renewed competitiveness.
