Nomcebo Dot Mthethwa Denies Ever Knowing Or Dating Khama Billiat
South African singer and actress Nomcebo “Nomcebo Dot” Mthethwa has finally broken her silence, issuing a fierce denial of longstanding rumours that she was married to or even dating former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khama Billiat. The star has now threatened to take legal action against the bloggers and publications she accuses of spreading what she calls “malicious lies.”
“I don’t even know him,” the star declared in a strongly worded statement released on Monday, firmly refuting claims that have dogged her for years.
Legal Warning Issued To Bloggers
Nomcebo Dot, who hails from Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal and currently stars in SABC 1’s Amalanga Awafani, revealed that the persistent gossip has severely impacted her professional career and personal life. In her statement, the singer expressed her frustration, stating that her silence was not an admission of guilt but rather a focus on her craft.
“It is quite disturbing. I’m a born-again Christian. Even in church I get asked about these allegations, and I just want to clear my name,” she said.
“For too long I have remained quiet, choosing to focus on my craft and believing that these baseless allegations would eventually fade away. However, my silence has been mistaken for weakness.”
She confirmed that she has now enlisted her management and legal team to pursue the matter aggressively, issuing a “final and powerful warning” to the bloggers responsible.
“I demand that all defamatory content regarding my brand be pulled down immediately. If you choose to stand by these fabrications, I suggest you prepare your evidence, as we will be seeing you in court,” the statement read.
The Origin Of The Lobola Rumours
The rumours first gained traction in January 2021 when a Sunday publication alleged that the Zimbabwean-born footballer had secretly paid lobola (bride price) for the former Trace TV presenter. It was claimed at the time that Billiat was adding Nomcebo Dot as a second wife, as he was reportedly already married to his wife back home, Esnath Munyedawo.
The speculation intensified when a City Press report quoted her mother, Smaniso Mthethwa, who allegedly confirmed that Billiat was engaged to her daughter but referred further questions to the couple.
When reporters contacted Billiat at the time, he reportedly laughed and hung up the phone. However, speaking to The Chronicle shortly after those reports, Billiat was unequivocal in his denial.
“Khama has one wife, Mai Kim, I never married anyone. I don’t know why people are doing this. I repeat I am happily married to Mai Kim,” Billiat stated.
Billiat, who now plays for Scotland FC after stints with Yada FC and Kaizer Chiefs, has previously made headlines for off-field issues. This included a 2020 incident where he had to obtain an interim protection order from the Randburg Magistrates Court against a woman who allegedly stormed the Chiefs’ training grounds.
Nomcebo Dot is adamant that the stories are a fabrication designed for clicks and has warned that the legal consequences for the publishers will be severe.
