Wicknell Chivayo Demands Results, Accountability As He Pours More Money Into Zimbabwe Football
Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has warned Zimbabwean football clubs that his financial support comes with expectations of discipline, accountability and results.
Chivayo said he would not hesitate to withdraw his funding if teams fail to meet the standards he expects.
His comments come as he continues to spend heavily on local football, including a US$100,000 reward for Scotland FC following their 1-0 victory over an Eswatini side.

‘I Reserve The Right To Pull The Plug’
Wicknell Chivayo said sponsorship should not be mistaken for an obligation on his part.
He argued that individuals who provide substantial financial support have every right to demand responsible conduct from the beneficiaries.
“Where my money is being spent, there must be satisfactory explanations and proper justification, not confusion or any discord. If I am not satisfied, I reserve the right to PULL THE PLUG WITHOUT NOTICE,” Chivayo said.
He added that voluntary sponsorship should never be treated as an entitlement.
“With the greatest respect, I DON’T OWE ANYONE ANYTHING,” he said.
Highlanders Under Scrutiny
Chivayo specifically placed Highlanders FC under the spotlight.
He said players representing the Bulawayo giants should conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the standing of the club.
He also demanded stronger administration from the Highlanders executive.
According to Chivayo, the club should maintain proper governance and provide clear records showing how his contributions are being spent.
His comments come despite his decision to continue supporting the club financially.
Another US$250 000 For Highlanders
Chivayo revealed that he had agreed to release a further US$250,000 to Highlanders this week.
He said the decision followed an intervention by a senior politician from Matabeleland whom he holds in high regard.
The businessman stressed that his willingness to provide more money does not mean he has abandoned his concerns about accountability.
He said financial support must be matched by order, responsibility and results.
Scotland FC Rewarded US$100 000
Chivayo also highlighted his recent reward to Scotland FC.
The businessman handed the players US$100,000 in cash after their 1-0 win over the Eswatini team.
He described the payment as recognition for the team’s performance.
The reward followed his earlier call for unity, good conduct, mutual respect and professionalism among players.
Chivayo said his position had attracted criticism, with some people comparing his expectations with those of corporate sponsors.
He rejected the comparison, pointing out that he is personally funding football and charity initiatives.
Chivayo Maintains Football Commitment
Despite his warnings, Chivayo said he remains committed to supporting Zimbabwean football.
He said he would continue investing where he believes his contribution can make a meaningful difference.
However, he made it clear that his financial backing will continue to come with expectations.
For Chivayo, performance on the field must be matched by professional conduct and responsible management away from it.
