Lekau Sehoana Launches New Sneaker Brand KITE After Drip Collapse

Celebrated South African entrepreneur Lekau Sehoana has officially launched his latest sneaker brand, KITE, sending waves of excitement through the fashion industry.

This bold move comes just a few months after the catastrophic liquidation of his former company, the once-thriving Drip Footwear, which left hundreds without employment and shuttered dozens of stores nationwide.

Dripwear began as a simple idea in 2019 and had exploded into a national sensation, with Sehoana’s creations gracing the feet of countless citizens and his stores becoming landmarks in malls. Its sudden collapse and liquidation came as a surprise to workers and customers.

Rather than retreat from the public eye, Sehoana demonstrated his own resilience. He immersed himself in a period of deep introspection and contributed his expertise to various high-profile inquiries. His business acumen remained sharp, as evidenced by his subsequent role as the Chief Executive Officer of a supermarket start-up, which was recently acquired.

Now, he has set his sights once more on the competitive sneaker market. The initial reception for KITE has been overwhelmingly positive, with early releases being snapped up by eager sneakerheads.

Unveiling his new project, Sehoana did not shy away from the painful history of his previous enterprise. He openly addressed his journey, stating,

“Six years ago I founded a brand called DRIP… after five years of successful trading and hundreds of jobs created, it later got liquidated. Yesterday I launched my new brand called KITE SA.”

He stated,

“KITE is a brand that I look at and think growth and maturity. While also having fun and introspecting into what we have done wrong and how to learn from that.”
