Makhadzi Claims She Is Stranded and Being Held Against Her Will in Botswana

South African singer Makhadzi is reportedly being held against her will in Botswana, where she has been stranded since Saturday following a dispute with an entertainment promoter.

She has accused Gilbert “PP Wa Pimp” Seagile of taking her passport, vehicle and personal belongings, leaving her unable to return home.

In a live social media broadcast, the award-winning musician explained that the disagreement involves money owed from a previous performance and promotional arrangements for her upcoming One Woman Show.

Makhadzi Recounts How Incident Unfolded

Makhadzi revealed that the confrontation happened while she was performing at an event.

She said her road manager alerted her to a group of men waiting outside, prompting her to leave the stage to find out what was happening.

According to Makhadzi, two men approached her, demanded her passport and attempted to take control of her vehicle.

She questioned their authority, arguing that they were not wearing police uniforms and had not produced identification documents, a warrant or a court order.

The singer alleged that her vehicle, passport and other belongings were subsequently taken.

Dispute Involves Botswana Promoter

The disagreement reportedly involves Seagile, whose company, Gilbert Promotions, has handled Makhadzi’s bookings and business dealings in Botswana since 2023.

The financial dispute is said to involve P50,000, approximately R60,582, as well as arrangements for a proposed One Woman Show in Botswana.

Seagile has been involved in the singer’s business dealings since she parted ways with Open Mic Productions.

He is also a prominent figure in Botswana’s entertainment industry and was recently elected chairman of the Association of Botswana Night Clubs and Bars (ABONIC), which represents businesses in the country’s nightlife, entertainment and hospitality sectors.

DIRCO Confirms It Is Handling the Matter

The controversy has drawn the attention of South African authorities, with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) confirming that it is attending to the matter.

DIRCO spokesperson Clayson Monyela acknowledged the situation after the singer’s account circulated on social media.

“We are attending to this matter. An update will be provided,” Monyela said.
