Passing the vibes: Springboks captain Siya Kolisi visits Bafana (pictures)

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi visited the Bafana Bafana camp in Durban this week. He showed strong support before Friday’s international friendly against Panama. Kolisi wore the newly launched Bafana Bafana jersey during his visit. He encouraged the players to stand tall and represent the country with pride.

Moreover, he reminded them they are ambassadors when wearing national colours. Kolisi arrived shortly after the team landed from Johannesburg. The squad is preparing for the match at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Broos Demands Passion and Strong Performances

Coach Hugo Broos wants a refreshed and focused Bafana Bafana team. He expects strong performances against the Central American opponents.

“The only thing I want to see is the real Bafana Bafana, the Bafana Bafana team that we know from the past two years that gave us some great results and fantastic performances, qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), third place in the AFCON in Ivory Coast and qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Broos said.

However, he admitted the team recently lost that form.

“We lost that a little bit three months ago in the AFCON in Morocco. I hope to see it again (on Friday), the team that plays with passion, the team that is determined when the players are out on the pitch, the team that plays football. This is something that I hope to see again.”

Captain Ronwen Williams warned teammates to stay alert against Panama. He stressed the importance of using every scoring chance effectively.

“We have analysed them, we have watched some video clips, and we have familiarised ourselves about them. They are a team we have to take seriously because they do not need a lot of chances to punish you, and that is what we saw in their last World Cup qualifier,” Williams said.

Meanwhile, FIFA rankings place Panama 33rd in the world. South Africa currently sits in 60th position.

The teams will meet again in Cape Town on Tuesday, 31 March.
