Zimbabwe is united in mourning after a heartbreaking tragedy on the Harare-Bindura road claimed three lives from one family. Beloved pastor and community pillar, Alpha Ngoni Gatsi, was killed in a devastating head-on collision on that route alongside his father and his uncle this past Monday. The trio were making their way to the funeral of Pastor Gatsi’s grandmother when the fatal accident occurred along the Harare-Bindura road.

The sorrowful news was formally announced by Rainbow Ministries International on the evening of 26 January 2026. In a statement addressed to the church family, Apostle Dr Bishop Phiri confirmed the devastating loss.

“It is with deep sorrow that we share the sad news that our pastor, Pastor Alpha Ngoni Gatsi, was involved in a road accident today while traveling with his father and his Uncle. Tragically, all three passed away on the spot.”

The church has called for prayers for the grieving families, who must now endure the pain of losing three generations simultaneously.

MP And Colleague Pays Emotional Tribute

The profound impact of Pastor Gatsi’s work was highlighted in a moving tribute from Gladys Kudzaishe Hlatywayo, the CCC Member of Parliament for Harare Central. On the morning of Tuesday, 27 January 2026, she shared her personal grief on social media, detailing the accident and his vital role as her Constituency Coordinator.

“Pastor Ngoni Gatsi died alongside his father and brother in a horrific head-on accident along Harare – Bindura road enroute to his grandmother’s funeral. Pastor Ngoni was an indispensable member of the Harare Central Constituency as the Constituency Coordinator, a dependable change agent and above all a pleasant human being.”

Her post expressed a depth of sorrow felt by many, ending with a poignant cry in Shona:

“Ah Mwari matipfuudzirei nepakaoma kudai?” (“Oh God, why have you taken them from us in such a difficult way?”).

Gospel Artist Joins Chorus Of Mourning

The tragedy has resonated deeply within Zimbabwe’s gospel music community. Prominent Harare-based gospel artist Olinda Marowa also paid her respects in a post on the night of the accident, offering words of spiritual comfort.

“Rest in peace my brother Pastor Ngoni Alpha Gatsi. We are deeply devastated by your passing on. May the Holy Spirit comfort us all together with the entire family. Till we meet again.”

Marowa accompanied her tribute with a quote from Isaiah 57:1-2, a scripture that speaks of the righteous being taken away to find peace and rest.
