ZRP Speaks On Detective Who Died In Accident Days After Allegedly Sneaking Into Police Training Academy
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has responded to widespread social media claims surrounding the death of Detective Sergeant Milika Laison, saying the officer died in a road accident days after he allegedly sneaked into the Ntabazinduna Police Academy. The police also said investigations have been ordered to establish the truth behind allegations circulating online, including claims that the late detective secretly entered and left the training facility despite not officially reporting for a developmental course.
ZRP Explains Detective Milika’s Last Movements Before Fatal Crash
In a press statement issued on 29 June 2026, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said Detective Sergeant Milika Laison (43) died in a road traffic accident on 25 June 2026 at around 10pm.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the accident happened at the 203km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road while Milika was driving his Honda Fit towards Masvingo from Beitbridge.
The police also dismissed social media claims that he had been travelling from Ntabazinduna Police Academy.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, academy records showed that Milika never officially reported for the Sergeants’ Developmental Course that began on 19 June 2026.
The statement said:
“Police trainers at the academy have checked their records and indicated that there is no record of the late member checking in at the academy on 19th June 2026 when other trainees came.”
The ZRP added that a roll call conducted on 20 June 2026 listed Milika among officers who had failed to report before CID Headquarters later informed the academy that he had submitted his resignation notice and would not be attending the course.
Police Launch Probe Into Alleged Secret Academy Entry
Despite saying there was no official record of Milika attending the academy, the police acknowledged reports suggesting he may have entered the training facility without authorisation.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Commissioner-General of Police has ordered investigations into the allegations.
The statement reads:
“If the late Detective Sergeant Milika sneaked into the training academy on 19th June 2026 using unorthodox means or without being accounted for and later sneaked out on 20th June 2026, action will certainly be taken against the concerned instructors who did not observe and follow set standards and protocol.”
The police also confirmed they were aware of social media posts allegedly made by the late detective claiming he had been subjected to inhuman treatment by instructors.
According to the statement:
“The Commissioner-General of Police has directed that full facts be established to find out the veracity of the allegations.”
The ZRP further stated that records show Milika was back at his mother station, CID Beitbridge, on 20 June 2026, where he met his Officer-In-Charge.
ZRP Urges Public Not To Rely On Social Media Claims
As it extended condolences to the Milika family, the Zimbabwe Republic Police urged the public to rely on verified information instead of unverified social media claims.
The police said:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police therefore dismisses incorrect facts with the contempt which they deserve. The police command urges the Milika family to engage the Zimbabwe Republic Police for the correct facts and not to be misled by the social media activists or posts.”
The statement also confirmed that investigations remain underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations linked to the late detective’s reported movements before his death.
