Police Probe US$80,000 Bulawayo CSC Robbery

Police are investigating a major robbery at the Cold Storage Company (CSC) in Bulawayo. Thieves reportedly escaped with more than US$80,000.

The suspects allegedly disabled the security system before entering the premises. They then forced open several company safes.

Investigators believe the operation was carefully planned. They suspect the robbers knew the premises and security arrangements well.

“The CCTV cameras were cut before the robbery, making it difficult to immediately identify the suspects,” the Chronicle reported a source as saying.

“Several office safes were forced open, and cash amounting to about US$80 000 was taken.”

Authorities also believe the gang understood the building’s layout. In addition, they appeared to know the alarm systems and cash storage locations.

Police Suspect Possible Inside Job

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the robbery. He said investigators are considering an inside job.

“We’re investigating a case of robbery in which approximately US$80 000 was stolen from the Cold Storage Commission premises in Bulawayo,” he said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that this could be an inside job, although investigations are still in progress.”

Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing several leads. They have also appealed for information from the public.

Furthermore, investigators will interview employees and security staff. Forensic experts continue examining the scene for evidence.

Police hope the findings will identify the suspects. They also aim to recover the stolen money.
