President Mnangagwa Launches Zimbabwe’s National AI Strategy for 2026–2030
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially launched Zimbabwe’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026–2030, outlining a roadmap aimed at leveraging emerging technologies to accelerate economic development and innovation.
The strategy, unveiled at the Parliament Building, sets out how artificial intelligence will be integrated into key sectors of the economy while strengthening the country’s digital capabilities.

AI Positioned as Driver of Transformation
Speaking during the launch, President Mnangagwa said artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming economies and societies around the world, making it essential for Zimbabwe to adapt and position itself within the evolving technological landscape.
“The current paradigm brings to the fore the urgent need to increase capacities towards digital architecture and sovereignty. The Zimbabwe we all envision must be a digitally robust and agile.
“We have the duty to embrace emerging technologies to unlock numerous Artificial Intelligence-driven opportunities that will propel modernisation, industrialisation, and sustainable economic growth,” said President Mnangagwa.
Blueprint for Economic and Technological Growth
According to the President, the newly introduced strategy represents a decisive step toward harnessing advanced technologies for national progress.
“The Zimbabwe National Artificial Intelligence Strategy will undoubtedly ignite a new chapter in our country’s ongoing development trajectory.”
The plan is designed to position artificial intelligence as a catalyst for innovation, while helping to expand opportunities for economic participation and technological advancement.
Expanding AI Across Key Sectors
Government officials say the strategy will encourage the use of artificial intelligence across multiple sectors, including agriculture, mining, healthcare, finance, and education.
President Mnangagwa described the framework as a declaration of Zimbabwe’s readiness to respond to the disruptive changes brought by rapidly evolving technologies.
“It is a bold response to the disruptive effects of the ever-evolving technological era. As a key development enabler, this strategy should help unleash our full potential and new frontiers in agriculture, mining, healthcare, finance, and education, among other aspects of the economy,” he said.
Call for Collective Implementation
The President urged institutions, businesses, and citizens to work together in implementing the strategy effectively, stressing that collaboration and innovation will be crucial to unlocking the full benefits of artificial intelligence.
He said the roadmap signals Zimbabwe’s commitment to embracing digital transformation as part of its broader national development agenda.
