President Mnangagwa Donates US$150 000 and Team Bus to Masvingo United FC
Masvingo United FC has received a significant financial and logistical boost after Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa donated US$150 000 in cash along with a team bus and two motor vehicles to support the club’s 2026 football season.
The sponsorship package comes at a crucial time for the Masvingo-based side, which has struggled with funding constraints while competing in the Zimbabwe Football Association Eastern Region Division One League.
The club, popularly known as “Yuna Yuna,” has long been one of the most followed football teams in the province, drawing passionate support from thousands of fans across Masvingo.
Political Leaders Facilitate Support
Senior officials from the ruling ZANU-PF party in Masvingo played a key role in securing the sponsorship after approaching the President for assistance.
Among those involved were State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira, and Zanu PF Deputy Secretary for Youth John Paradza.
Speaking on the development, Minister Chadzamira confirmed that the appeal to the Head of State resulted in the substantial support package for the club.
“We managed to secure US$150 000 sponsorship for Masvingo United FC from President Mnangagwa and also a team bus and two motor vehicles after we approached the Head of State and Government for assistance to alleviate funding challenges that were choking the city’s most followed football franchise,” said Minister Chadzamira.

Hope for a Return to Top-Flight Football
Masvingo United has been striving to regain its place in the country’s top-flight league after being relegated from the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League several years ago.
However, limited financial resources have hampered the club’s ability to compete effectively and mount a serious push for promotion.
The new sponsorship is expected to stabilise the team’s operations and strengthen its campaign in Division One as it seeks a path back to the Premiership.
Football as a Tool for Social Change
Provincial leaders believe the renewed investment in football could also deliver broader social benefits, particularly among young people in Masvingo.
“The President is a listening President who is guided by his mantra of ‘leaving no one and no place behind’ and agreed to support Masvingo United FC. We are very happy with the gesture made by the President, which also dovetails with Vision 2030.”
Minister Chadzamira added that revitalising sporting activities could help keep youths engaged and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing drug and substance abuse in the province.
