ZRP Issues Strong Warning Over Police Officers Asking Complainants For Transport
Members of the public have been urged to report Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers who ask complainants to provide transport when they are called to attend crime or accident scenes.
The directive was issued by national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi during Zimpapers’ Capitalk 100.4FM current affairs programme No Holds Barred on Monday, following concerns from listeners about police response times.
ZRP Transport Complaints
Commissioner Nyathi said members of the public should not accept claims that police officers cannot attend incidents because there is no official transport.
“Any police officer who gives excuses that they don’t have transport and is requesting a complainant to provide transport, call our public relations desk. Report such cases and action will be taken.”
He said police stations across Zimbabwe have vehicles, while additional motorcycles have also been deployed.
“There is no police station in Zimbabwe without a vehicle, including in Harare.”

Commissioner Nyathi urged people who encounter such cases to contact the ZRP public relations desk, which operates around the clock.

He said police had recently acquired 500 motorcycles, with additional deployments in Harare.
The motorcycles are being used for patrols, scene attendance and traffic enforcement.
ZRP Warns Against One-Way Driving
Commissioner Nyathi also said motorists caught driving against one-way traffic would face arrest and prosecution rather than simply paying a fine.
He said the directive had come from Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba.
The ZRP’s position is that members of the public should report officers who request complainants to arrange transport instead of attending incidents.
