Security Guard Accused Of Helping Robbers Steal US$88 846 From Harare Property
A group of masked suspects walked into a Harare property and escaped with US$88 846 after a security guard allegedly allowed them through the main gate without carrying out the required checks.
The suspects reportedly targeted an office where a woman was confronted and questioned about recently delivered company cash before one of them grabbed a plastic bag containing the money.

Suspects gain entry
According to The Herald, the incident happened on September 25, 2026, at around 5:30pm while Charles Mukwenha, 34, was on duty at the property’s main entrance.
The court heard that Mukwenha’s responsibilities included screening visitors before granting them access to the premises.
However, three accomplices arrived wearing blue work suits and surgical face masks. One of them was allegedly carrying a pick.
Mukwenha opened the gate and allowed the group onto the property without conducting the required security checks.
The suspects then proceeded towards an office, leaving Mukwenha alone at the entrance.
Woman confronted over cash
According to the State, the suspects confronted the complainant inside the office and demanded to know where the company’s recently delivered cash was kept.
One of them reportedly picked up a plastic bag containing US$88 846 that had been left on the floor.
The suspects ordered the woman to remain seated, with two of them leaving the office while another stayed behind to guard her.
The group later went upstairs, where they dismantled a dummy CCTV DVR before making their way out of the property.
They then reportedly fled with the cash.
CCTV captures guard
Detectives who attended the scene on the same day reviewed CCTV footage as they investigated the robbery.
The State alleges that the footage showed Mukwenha opening the gate for the suspects and allowing them onto the premises.
The footage further showed that he did not alert the occupants after the group entered.
Instead, Mukwenha was seen moving towards other people at the property after the suspects had left him at the main gate.
Guard appears in court
Mukwenha subsequently appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai facing a robbery charge.
Prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah told the court that Mukwenha had connived with the other suspects to gain access to the property and carry out the robbery.
The magistrate remanded Mukwenha in custody pending his full bail application.
