‘This Man Has His Money’: Former Kenyan Deputy President Claims Wicknell Chivayo Held Over US$11 Billion For President William Ruto Before His Death

Former Kenyan Deputy President Claims Wicknell Chivayo Held Over US$11 Billion For President William Ruto Before His Death

Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has set social media abuzz after a video of him claiming that the late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo was holding more than US$11 billion on behalf of Kenyan President William Ruto when he died emerged online.

Gachagua made the allegation during an engagement in Boston, United States, on Sunday, claiming that Chivayo had been involved in handling large sums of money for Ruto.

Gachagua Links Chivayo To Ruto

According to Gachagua, Chivayo was allegedly used by Ruto to receive and move money, with the businessman purportedly transporting cash to Zimbabwe for safekeeping.

“There was a crook from Zimbabwe called Chivayo, because I was his (President Ruto) deputy, I know they were doing business together, and he is a man he has been using for money laundering. He gets money in dollars, that man comes with a plane, lands in a private airstrip, and takes the money to keep for him,” Gachagua claimed.

The former Deputy President said Chivayo’s death had created uncertainty for Ruto over the whereabouts of the money he alleged was being held by the Zimbabwean businessman.

Claims Ruto Was Worried After Chivayo’s Death

Gachagua claimed that Ruto was distressed following the helicopter accident that killed Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke.

“The guy has crashed with a helicopter… and Kasongo has gone berserk. This man has his money,” Gachagua said, using the name Kasongo in reference to Ruto.

He then put the alleged amount at more than Ksh1.5 trillion, which he said was equivalent to over US$11 billion.

“Over 1.5 trillion. The man is dead, his wife is dead, he doesn’t know where to begin. So the man is angry,” he said.

Claims Spark Social Media Buzz

The extraordinary allegations have generated discussion on social media, particularly because of the huge amount of money mentioned and Gachagua’s claim that Chivayo was allegedly holding it at the time of his death.
