Three Bulawayo Pupils Critically Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in Hillside

Victims Rushed to Mpilo Hospital
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, saying the three pupils — two girls from Emganwini and a boy from Nketa 8, all aged 16 — were taken to hospital following the collision.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 3:30pm.
The injured teenagers were transported to Mpilo Central Hospital, where they remain in serious condition.
“As a result of the accident, the three juveniles sustained serious injuries and were ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention, where their conditions are serious,” said Inspector Msebele.
Elderly Driver Involved
Preliminary investigations indicate that an 81-year-old woman was driving a Honda CR-V northbound along Dundee Drive when the vehicle struck the three pupils.
Police said the teenagers were walking along the same road after leaving school when the collision occurred.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the exact cause of the accident or the nature of the injuries sustained by the pupils.
Investigations Underway
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers faced by pedestrians, particularly schoolchildren travelling during busy afternoon traffic periods.
Road safety advocates have repeatedly called on motorists to exercise greater caution near schools and residential areas, warning that vulnerable road users are often at risk during peak hours.
Police Urge Motorists to Exercise Caution
Following the accident, Inspector Msebele appealed to drivers to remain alert and prioritise pedestrian safety, especially in areas frequented by children.
“Police urge all motorists to always exercise extreme caution and keep a proper lookout, especially for schoolchildren when driving, to avoid accidents,” she said.
Authorities say more information will be made available as investigations continue.
