A handwritten note allegedly linked to Harare nurse Lyliosa Chirara has emerged following a tragic family incident.
Chirara, 43, allegedly attacked her husband, Martin Muduva, 42, before taking her own life.
However, authorities have not publicly authenticated the contents of the handwritten note.
Muduva was an engineer, lecturer and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission commissioner.
He reportedly sustained serious injuries at the couple’s Dzivarasekwa Extension home.
He later died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Wednesday morning.
Chirara subsequently died after allegedly consuming rat poison.
The note reportedly describes a troubled marriage and years of emotional distress.
Allegations of a troubled marriage
In the handwritten document, Chirara allegedly apologised to her relatives for her actions.
She claimed that prolonged suffering and marital problems had affected her deeply.
“I have done this because of being tormented and the suffering I have endured for a long time and the distress I have suffered,” she wrote.
She also claimed that her husband presented a different picture of their marriage to other people.
“Admittedly, many think that I have peace of mind, but that’s not true, and I have only been suffering all my life while my husband was lying to people that he has a lot of love for me, while he doesn’t have any. All he was doing was making me suffer.”
Chirara further alleged that Muduva stopped sharing a bedroom with her between 2022 and 2025.
She also claimed their relationship became affected by differences over education and finances.
According to the note, Muduva allegedly refused to discuss his earnings with her.
She also claimed he discouraged her from starting a chicken and egg business.
The note further contained allegations involving another woman and an alleged secret marriage.
Chirara claimed Muduva spent about a year living with the woman before returning home.
She alleged that he later told her he wanted a wife who better matched his social and educational status.
She reportedly discovered the alleged marriage after seeing a social media post.
The post allegedly concerned a roora ceremony involving Muduva and the other woman.
Final message to her family
Chirara’s alleged note also focused heavily on her children and relatives.
She acknowledged that her actions would cause significant pain to both families.
“Understandably, you can say that I got it wrong in terms of my thinking, but forgive me — I have been made to suffer for a very long time. Let me rest now,” she wrote.
She also claimed her husband had told her she was no longer the right wife for him.
“Forgive me, my relatives, I have taken the wrong decision, but I have done it because of the suffering that I have endured. Leave me to rest,” Chirara allegedly wrote.
The nurse also expressed regret about leaving her children behind.
“My kids, they don’t know anything. Yes, I wanted to see them grow, but I would still have died because of stress. Sorry, I have failed.”
Another woman, Patience Mangwiro, featured prominently in the alleged note.
Chirara accused Mangwiro of wanting to destroy her marriage to Muduva.
She also referred to her previous statement about their marriage ending only through death.
“This is the death that I meant.”
Chirara then appealed for forgiveness from her mother and the Muduva family.
She reportedly said she wrote the message while crying.
She also addressed a family elder identified as “Babamukuru Baba vaPhilip”.
Chirara allegedly accused him of influencing Muduva’s decision to seek another wife.
She further claimed he failed to intervene when problems emerged in her marriage.
The note reportedly ended with a request for the elder to look after her children.
