Victoria Falls gets US$66.9 million infrastructure boost

Zimbabwe has secured a US$66.9 million public-private partnership to transform infrastructure in Victoria Falls.

The major deal targets roads, utilities and telecommunications within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone.

It also signals fresh efforts to strengthen tourism, attract investors and drive economic growth in the resort city.

Major infrastructure investment takes shape

The agreement brings together Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company and Victoria Seven Investments.

Together, they will develop essential infrastructure across the 271-hectare Masuwe Special Economic Zone.

The project includes roads, water systems, sewer networks, electricity distribution and telecommunications infrastructure.

Cabinet approved the development in April, paving the way for the latest investment agreement.

Once completed, the serviced land will support several major developments.

These include hotels, luxury lodges, residential estates and commercial centres.

The zone will also accommodate medical facilities and a tourism academy.

In addition, developers plan to include the international multi-purpose cricket stadium currently under construction.

Deal aims to boost Victoria Falls tourism

Speaking during Tuesday’s signing ceremony, Deputy Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Tongai Mnangagwa welcomed the partnership.

He said the deal highlights Zimbabwe’s commitment to private sector-led infrastructure development.

The investment should also create jobs while expanding opportunities for businesses and investors.

Furthermore, improved infrastructure could increase Victoria Falls’ ability to accommodate international visitors.

The development could also generate wider economic benefits across tourism, hospitality and property markets.

Victoria Falls remains one of Zimbabwe’s most important tourism destinations.

The city hosts one of the world’s largest waterfalls and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Consequently, tourism continues to play a significant role in Zimbabwe’s economy.

The latest investment supports the government’s broader tourism-led economic growth strategy.

It also aims to diversify the economy and improve Zimbabwe’s appeal to international investors.
