Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has announced a major donation honouring late Vice President Dr John Landa Nkomo.
Chivayo made the announcement while commemorating Nkomo’s birthday and celebrating his contribution to Zimbabwe.
He described Nkomo as a “GIANT OF OUR LIBERATION STRUGGLE” and a distinguished statesman.
According to Chivayo, Nkomo represented patriotism, sacrifice, humility, unity and dedicated public service.
The businessman said Nkomo’s legacy remained important to Zimbabwe’s future generations.
Chivayo Pledges Major Support for Nkomo Trust
As part of the tribute, Chivayo pledged US$250,000 to the John Landa Nkomo Trust.
The money will support further development at the school associated with Nkomo’s legacy.
Additionally, Chivayo announced several donations aimed at improving transport and education facilities.
He will provide a brand-new single-cab pickup for the school’s headmaster.
He will also donate a Toyota Coaster bus to complement a 76-seater bus donated last year.
Furthermore, the businessman pledged 100 desktop computers, 50 laptops and 50 printers.
The equipment will support the establishment of a modern computer laboratory at the school.
Chivayo said Zimbabwean children deserved access to modern technology and educational opportunities.
Tribute Extends Beyond the School
Chivayo also recognised John Landa Nkomo Trust chairman Jabulani Nkomo for his leadership.
He described Nkomo’s commitment to preserving the late vice president’s legacy as unmatched.
As a personal gesture, Chivayo pledged US$50,000 directly to Jabulani Nkomo.
He also offered US$20,000 to Jabulani’s wife, Busi.
Chivayo said the gesture recognised leadership, loyalty and dedication.
Meanwhile, he remembered John Landa Nkomo as a champion of peace and national unity.
Nkomo famously promoted the message, “Peace begins with me, peace begins with you, peace begins with all of us.”
Chivayo said those principles continued to inspire Zimbabweans today.
He concluded by promising to help preserve Nkomo’s name and advance his enduring legacy.
