A 52-year-old Zaka man remains in serious condition after his brother allegedly attacked him with a machete.
Brighton Chisenga, from Marombedze village, sustained injuries to his head, left hand and chest.
The violent incident happened around 4pm on 10 August in Chief Nhema’s area.
Brighton was reportedly walking home after visiting local shops when he encountered his brother.
Brother allegedly launches machete attack
Police identified the suspect as Obvious Chisenga, who remains on the run.
According to police, Obvious allegedly confronted Brighton along a footpath and threatened to kill him.
Brighton reportedly questioned the reason behind his brother’s anger and asked about their family dispute.
Obvious then allegedly pulled a machete from his trousers and attacked him.
The first blow struck Brighton on the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
However, the alleged attacker continued the assault as Brighton struggled to recover.
He reportedly struck his brother again on the left hand and chest.
Despite his injuries, Brighton managed to flee from the scene and seek help.
He reached a nearby homestead owned by Patrick Dzinovatonga, who quickly intervened.
Dzinovatonga then transported Brighton to Mashoko Mission Hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors admitted him in serious condition following the alleged attack.
Police hunt for suspect
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the case to TellZim News.
Police are treating the incident as an attempted murder case linked to a family grudge.
“We have a report that a brother is being sought for attempted murder of his brother over a family grudge,” said Inspector Dehwa.
“The accused produced a machete from his trousers and struck the complainant on the head, and when he fell, he continued attacking him on the hand and chest. The victim managed to escape and sought refuge at a nearby homestead.”
Meanwhile, police have launched efforts to locate Obvious following the reported attack.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact their nearest police station.
