Zanu PF Mp Arrested For Blowing US$50K Constituency Funds On Beer, Hotels And Groceries

A ZANU PF Member of Parliament has been arrested after allegedly spending US$50,000 (approx. R925,000) from Constituency Development Funds on groceries, beer, and hotel expenses, with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) saying the money was meant for community development projects.

Joel Sithole, the Member of Parliament for Chiredzi South, was arrested on 25 March 2026 following investigations into the alleged misuse of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money disbursed in August 2025.

According to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Sithole allegedly diverted funds that were meant for the construction of a classroom block and the roofing of staff houses at Gwaseche Primary School and Makanani Clinic.

In a statement posted on 25 March 2026, ZACC said Sithole allegedly misappropriated more than ZWG 1.2 million, equivalent to US$50,000 (approx. R925,000).

Funds Meant For Classroom And Clinic Projects

According to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Sithole received the funds in August 2025 for specific development projects.

ZACC said:

“ZACC has arrested Member of Parliament for Chiredzi South, Joel Sithole, on charges of abuse of duty after he allegedly misappropriated over ZWG 1.2 million of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).”

The anti-corruption body further revealed that the funds were earmarked for development projects within the constituency.

“Sithole allegedly received a ZWG 1,234,150.00 (equivalent to USD 50,000) CDF disbursement from the Parliament of Zimbabwe in August 2025.”

ZACC added that the funds were intended for:

“The construction of a classroom block and roofing of staff houses at Gwaseche Primary School and Makanani Clinic.”

However, investigations reportedly found that the projects were not implemented as planned.

Groceries, Hotels, and Beer Purchases

ZACC said investigations showed that Sithole allegedly diverted the money shortly after receiving it.

The commission stated:

“After receiving the funds, Sithole, who serves as the Chairperson of the CDF committee and is a signatory to its bank account, allegedly diverted the money.”

ZACC further revealed that Sithole allegedly worked with another individual.

“Investigations established that Sithole, acting in common purpose with one Edson Chauke, who is still at large, transferred ZWG 850,000 from the CDF account to a local wholesaler for the purchase of groceries.”

The commission also said the MP allegedly spent additional funds on personal expenses.

“He reportedly also spent ZWG 418,516.00 at grocery shops, hotels, and beer outlets.”

Cement And Roofing Sheets Bought To Conceal Spending

According to ZACC, Sithole allegedly attempted to conceal the alleged misuse of funds by purchasing limited construction materials.

The anti-corruption body said:

“To conceal the alleged misappropriation, Sithole later purchased 100 bags of cement and a few roofing sheets for a different school to create the impression that project work had commenced.”

ZACC confirmed that Sithole is expected to appear in court.

“He is expected to appear at Masvingo Magistrates Court tomorrow, 26 March 2026.”

The case is still developing, and authorities say investigations are ongoing.

No response had yet been issued by Sithole at the time of publication.
