Government Blames Violent Discipline After Girl, 6, Beaten To Death For Failing To Spell Name

The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare has expressed deep shock and sorrow following the death of a six-year-old girl. The child was reportedly beaten to death for failing to spell her name. In a press statement, the Ministry extended its condolences to the grieving family and community. This tragic incident has ignited a national conversation on violent discipline and child protection.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Simon Masanga, issued a firm condemnation of the act. The statement called the death a heartbreaking tragedy and a stark reminder of the dangers of physical punishment.

Ministry Condemns “Abhorrent” Act

The government department did not mince words in its response to the child’s death. The press release strongly denounced violence against children in any form.

“We strongly condemn such acts of violence against children. No circumstance can ever justify the use of physical abuse as a form of discipline. This heartbreaking case is a stark reminder that children deserve love, patience and protection, not punishment that endagers their lives.”

The Ministry emphasised that safeguarding children is a collective duty for the entire community. It urged the public to break the silence that often surrounds abuse.

A Call For Positive Parenting And Community Vigilance

In the wake of the tragedy, the Ministry is calling for a widespread shift in parenting approaches. The statement advocates for nurturing methods over punitive violence.

“We call upon all parents, guardians and caregivers to embrace positive parenting practices. Children thrive when they are nurtured with encouragement, guidance and respect. Discipline must be constructive and never harmful.”

The Ministry stressed the importance of community intervention. It pleaded with citizens to report any suspected violence against children to the authorities immediately.

“We urge all community members to report any incident of violence against children immediately to the nearest police station or social welfare office. Silence only enables abuse, speaking out saves lives.”

The press statement concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to child rights. It promised to strengthen advocacy and support systems to prevent future tragedies.
