Tawanda Maswanhise Nominated for PFA Scotland Player of the Year After Stellar Season

Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise has been nominated for the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Scotland Player of the Year award following a standout season in the Scottish Premiership.

Breakthrough Season in Scotland

Since moving to Scotland nearly two years ago, Maswanhise has steadily grown into a key figure for Motherwell FC.

This season, he has taken his game to another level, scoring 22 goals across all competitions. Of those, 17 have come in the league, placing him at the top of the scoring charts.

His impressive form has also been recognised with multiple Player of the Month awards, underlining his influence throughout the campaign.

Strong Competition for the Award

Maswanhise faces stiff competition for the accolade. He is up against Claudio Braga and Lawrence Shankland, both from Heart of Midlothian FC.

Notably, this year’s shortlist marks the first time since 2013 that no players from Celtic FC or Rangers FC have been nominated, highlighting a shift in the league’s competitive landscape.

Recognition in Team of the Year

The nomination comes just days after Maswanhise was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year, further cementing his status among the elite performers in the league.

He was included in a Best XI selected through votes cast by fellow Scottish Premiership players, reflecting the respect he has earned from his peers.

Maswanhise is one of five Motherwell players to make the team, an indication of the club’s strong showing this season.

Award Night Approaches

The winner of the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award will be announced at the association’s annual dinner on May 3.

For Maswanhise, the nomination alone represents a major milestone—but his exceptional season has already put him firmly in contention to take home the top prize.
