Zimbabwean Man Arrested In US After Stabbing Wife Nearly 30 Times, Abducting Daughter

Neighbours’ Calls Lead To Arrest Of Zimbabwean Man In US Horror Case

A Zimbabwean man has been arrested in the United States after allegedly stabbing his wife nearly 30 times before abducting their six-year-old daughter, prompting an AMBER Alert that ended with the child being found safe.

36-year-old Munyaradzi Chiturumani was taken into custody after authorities tracked him down following the incident in St. Louis County, Missouri. His wife survived the attack and was rushed to hospital, where she was reported to be in a stable condition.

Neighbours heard desperate cries for help before police arrived

The incident unfolded on Wednesday, 1 July, at a home in unincorporated St. Louis County.

According to investigators, neighbours called emergency services after hearing a woman screaming from a balcony that she was going to die.

When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from approximately 30 stab wounds. Police said she told them Chiturumani had threatened to kill their six-year-old daughter before leaving with the child.

Authorities also recovered two blood-stained knives from the home.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an AMBER Alert, identifying Chiturumani as the girl’s non-custodial father and warning that the child was believed to be in danger.

Child found safe as suspect located at motel

The search ended later that evening when authorities located both Chiturumani and the six-year-old.

The child was found unharmed, while Chiturumani was arrested at a motel in Caseyville, Illinois.

First Alert 4 reports that investigators believe the suspect had attempted to take his own life before officers arrived. It was not immediately clear whether the child was with him when police found him.

The girl’s mother was taken to hospital, where she remained in a stable condition.

Multiple criminal charges laid

St. Louis County prosecutors have charged Chiturumani with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child by creating a substantial risk.

He is being held on a US$500,000 cash-only bond.

Online court records had not reflected the full case docket when the reports were published, and it was not immediately clear whether he had obtained legal representation.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the alleged attack. Court proceedings are expected to continue, with a plea hearing scheduled this week.
