Zimbabwean performance analyst Tinashe-Shingai Mukandatsama has been appointed to South Africa’s technical staff for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which begins on 21 December in Morocco.
The appointment was confirmed by the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Wednesday, strengthening Bafana Bafana’s analytical department ahead of the tournament.
SAFA announced the development on their official website, writing:
“Senior Performance Analyst Sinesipho Mali will also not be alone in Morocco as Under-20 World Cup analyst Tinashe-Shingai Mukandatsama has joined his department.”

A Rising Talent in Performance Analysis
Mukandatsama, currently part of the Mamelodi Sundowns technical department, has earned recognition for his high-level video analysis, opposition profiling and data-driven performance insights.
His skillset has made him one of the most promising young analysts in the region.
From Zimbabwe to the International Arena
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Mukandatsama later moved to South Africa to sharpen his expertise in sports science and performance analysis.
His career gained momentum when he joined the technical setup of the South Africa Under-20 national team, contributing to their Africa U20 Championship triumph before travelling with the squad to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
Set for AFCON Challenge — in a Group Featuring Zimbabwe
His inclusion in Bafana Bafana’s AFCON technical team now offers him an opportunity to showcase his analytical abilities on one of Africa’s biggest football stages.
In an interesting twist, South Africa and Zimbabwe share Group B, alongside Egypt and Angola, meaning Mukandatsama will help prepare a team competing directly against his country of birth.
Support and Mixed Reactions to Mukandatsama’s Appointment
Mukandatsama’s appointment has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many praising his rise and acknowledging the hard work that earned him a place in Bafana Bafana’s AFCON technical team.
