Zimunya Man Sentenced After Shocking Act With A Chicken

Mutare Court Sentences Man Over Chicken Bestiality Case

A shocking case has rocked Zimunya after a 19-year-old man was arrested and convicted for engaging in a sexual act with a chicken. The disturbing incident, which happened earlier this month, was heard in detail before the Mutare Magistrates Court, which handed down its ruling on 24 September 2025, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.

Disturbing incident in Piki Village

Court records show that on 16 September 2025, at around 5:30 pm, Carrington Mutasa entered the homestead of a villager at Piki Village under Chief Zimunya in Mutare. No one was home at the time.

The prosecutor explained:

“The offender entered the victim’s fowl run, grabbed a hen and engaged in sexual activity with it.”

The shocking act was not entirely hidden. The victim’s granddaughter saw Mutasa leaving the fowl run. She immediately raised alarm and informed her grandmother of what she had witnessed.

When the grandmother went to inspect her chickens, she discovered one of her hens had suffered injuries. The official report described the bird as having a “large hole on its cloaca area,” a detail that left villagers disturbed and angry.

Community intervenes

The grandmother quickly called her neighbours, sharing the horrifying discovery. Together, they decided to confront Mutasa.

The National Prosecuting Authority stated:

“The offender confessed to having sexual intercourse with the hen.”

The confession shocked the gathered community. The matter was immediately reported to Zimunya Police Post, and Mutasa was arrested the same day.

Neighbours who witnessed the events also provided statements to police, confirming both the granddaughter’s account and the condition of the injured hen.

Court ruling and sentence

The case moved swiftly through the courts. On 24 September 2025, Mutasa appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court, where he was convicted of bestiality.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison. However, the magistrate suspended three months of the term for a period of five years, on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that time.

The remaining five months were also suspended, on condition that Mutasa performs 175 hours of community service.

The National Prosecuting Authority concluded its bulletin with a firm message to the public:

“Let’s work together to protect animals and promote a culture of compassion and respect. #StopAnimalCruelty.”
