ZRP Officer Loses Ear After Violent Confrontation With Kombi Crew

A police officer lost an ear in a violent confrontation with a kombi crew in Harare. The shocking incident, which involved an alleged kidnapping and assault, has sent ripples through the capital.

The event unfolded on Sunday, January 4, 2026, in Rhodesville. Constable Shadreck Jongwe, 36, was on routine traffic duty with a colleague when they stopped a white Toyota Hiace.

A Routine Stop Turns Violent

According to H-Metro, the kombi driver, Shepherd Kazingizi, was stopped for picking up passengers at an undesignated point. Constable Jongwe decided to escort the vehicle to the Roadport police post to ensure a fine was paid. His colleague remained at the scene. Defying instructions, Kazingizi allegedly drove off with the officer still inside.

The situation escalated rapidly as the vehicle headed east on Robert Mugabe Way. The kombi conductor, Takudzwa Pachavo, reportedly launched a brutal assault on the trapped officer.

A Brutal Assault And Kidnapping

During the forced journey, Constable Jongwe was subjected to a vicious attack. The publication states that Pachavo assaulted him “with a series of blows, using both open hands and clenched fists.” The assault culminated in a horrific injury.

In a brutal act, one of the assailants bit Jongwe on his right ear before they abandoned him along Robert Mugabe Avenue, near Rhodesville.

The officer was later ferried to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. The two suspects, Kazingizi and Pachavo, were subsequently apprehended.

Vehicle Owner Assists In Apprehension

The arrest of the two Ruwa residents followed the intervention of the kombi’s owner, Melisa Manon’ore.

Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances of the alleged kidnapping and assault.
