Itu Khune Embraces New Chapter After Playing Career
The South African football icon, who earned 91 caps for Bafana Bafana, last featured professionally during the 2023/24 season.
Since stepping away from competitive football, Itu Khune has remained active in various ventures, including mining, sports betting as a shareholder at TopBet, television punditry with the SABC, and ambassadorial roles for both the Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout Cup.
Partnership With Ruimsig Football Academy
Khune’s latest move sees him collaborate with the Ruimsig Football Academy of Excellence, which has announced a landmark partnership with the former national team goalkeeper. The collaboration has resulted in the launch of Itu Khune Distribution 101 Goalkeeper Coaching, a specialised programme designed to groom young shot-stoppers.
Focus on Technical and Mental Development
The programme will cater for goalkeepers aged between Under-12 and Under-18, with training sessions set to be held at Avianto Estate Private School. The initiative will place emphasis on technical ability, tactical understanding, and the mental strength required to perform consistently at a high level.
Building a Pathway for Aspiring Goalkeepers
By combining Khune’s vast experience at elite level with modern coaching methods, the initiative is expected to provide a structured pathway for young goalkeepers hoping to break into professional football. The project marks a significant contribution to grassroots development and could play a key role in shaping the future of South African goalkeeping.
