Jacob Mafume Urges Content Creators to Use Their Earnings to Buy Stands
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has encouraged content creators to organise themselves into collectives and invest in property, saying the city has opportunities that can help creatives secure long-term stability beyond online popularity.
Speaking at the Ollah 7 Podcast second anniversary celebrations, Mafume said creators should take advantage of what the City of Harare can offer instead of risking an uncertain future.

Call for Collective Engagement With the City
Jacob Mafume said content creators operate within a growing industry and should engage the city as a united group to access land, infrastructure and working spaces. He argued that creatives should not find themselves homeless despite generating income through their work.
He pointed out that Harare has several underutilised community halls and open spaces that could be repurposed into studios and creative hubs if properly managed.
As content creators and as people in an industry it is important for you to become a collective so that you can benefit from what the city can offer. There is no reason why you should die homeless. There should be no reason why you should not have stands to stay. There is no reason why should not have areas where you can build your studios. We have so many community halls that are empty in our suburbs. We have so many areas which are being invaded and people taking stands and you end up not. I see you make a lot of money.

The mayor urged content creators to channel some of the money they earn into acquiring residential stands from the city council. He said owning property would provide security even if their content loses relevance or stops generating income.
Mafume told the gathering that creatives should think beyond short-term success and ensure they have a permanent place to live. He stressed that popularity can be temporary, but property ownership offers long-term stability.
“Huyayi nemari idzodzo tikupei pekuvakira imba kuitira kuti kanamazopera or kana zvisachanakidzi zvawanga uchiita unenge unepako pekugara,” he added.
