Muzarabani tore through the top order. He dismissed Josh Inglis, Tim David, Matt Renshaw and Adam Zampa to finish with figures of 4/17 in four overs.
According to Cricket Australia, Zimbabwe “edged Australia in a stunning T20 World Cup boilover in Colombo to maintain their unbeaten record over their higher-ranked rivals at the ICC’s T20 showpiece.”
The publication reported:
“Blessing Muzarabani took a career-best 4-17 as Zimbabwe defended 169.”
Australia captain Travis Head admitted his side were under pressure early.
“We put ourselves under pressure losing wickets in the Powerplay. Zimbabwe bowled well … and we left ourselves with too much to do at the end.”
Cricket World Reacts To Historic Milestone
The performance drew praise from across the cricketing world.
Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin wrote on X:
“This is clinical from Zim.
Batting and bowling have been great but Tony Munyonga’s fielding has piled on the pressure.”
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also weighed in.
“A statement win from Zimbabwe!
Beating Australia by 23 runs takes real character. And of course, Blessing turned out to be just that, a blessing in the truest sense, with a superb 4 wicket spell.”
Zimbabwe now sit second in Group B with two wins from two matches, level on points with Sri Lanka.
Australia, meanwhile, must win their remaining group fixtures to boost their chances of progressing.
For Muzarabani, the day belonged to him. A milestone achieved. A statement delivered. And a reminder that Zimbabwe are a force to reckon with in this tournament.
