Mzansi Celebrates as Lorch Scores on Debut at Al Ittihad

Lorch Justifies No.11 Jersey With Goal on Al Ittihad Debut

South African forward Thembinkosi Lorch has wasted no time making his mark at his new club, Al Ittihad, after scoring on his debut in the Libyan Premier League.

The 32-year-old attacker, recently completed a move to the Libyan giants from Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club, where he had been a standout performer.

His arrival was met with excitement, and expectations were high following his unveiling alongside several new recruits, including former Wydad midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki.

Goal on Debut

Lorch made his first appearance for Al Ittihad during their league fixture against Al Shomooa on Sunday evening. Introduced in the second half, the Free State-born forward quickly made an impact by finding the back of the net.

His goal helped secure the club’s eighth win in nine matches and preserved their unbeaten streak in the league, further strengthening their position among the title contenders.

A Statement of Intent

During his official unveiling last Thursday, Lorch was handed the prestigious number 11 jersey — a clear sign of the club’s confidence in his abilities. He repaid that faith almost immediately with a match-winning contribution.

Al Ittihad are believed to have invested over US$1.5 million (approximately R24 million) to secure his services, underlining the importance of his signing.

Having left Wydad in impressive form, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward will be eager to maintain his momentum. Continued strong performances in Libya could also strengthen his case for a return to the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America.
