Itumeleng Khune blasts Kaizer Chiefs players

Kaizer Chiefs suffered another heavy blow at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Orlando Pirates crushed Amakhosi 3-0 in a dominant display.

As a result, frustration continues to grow among supporters. Moreover, the club’s ambitions now hang in the balance.

Chiefs Lose Ground in Title Race

Chiefs’ problems extend beyond the derby defeat. Previously, they exited the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 to Zamalek. Before that, Stellenbosch FC knocked them out of the Nedbank Cup.

Then, Stellies beat them again midweek in a 2-1 league defeat. That loss also came at FNB Stadium.

Consequently, Chiefs now sit fifth in the Betway Premiership. They have collected 30 points from 17 matches. Therefore, a title challenge looks increasingly unlikely.

Instead, the focus may shift to securing a top-three finish. Second place guarantees CAF Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, third place secures CAF Confederation Cup football.

Khune Issues Blunt Warning

Following these setbacks, Itumeleng Khune addressed the squad publicly. The former captain remains one of the club’s greatest goalkeepers. He made over 300 appearances for Amakhosi.

He posted a strong message on Instagram.

“At least RESPECT the CHAIRMAN, LEGENDS and the AMAKHOSI DIE HARD SUPPORTERS Gents,” he wrote, adding succinctly, “Total Disrespect.”

Clearly, morale remains low within the camp. However, Chiefs must regroup quickly.

Next, they travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face Richards Bay. The match takes place at uMhlathuze Stadium on Tuesday, 3 March.

Importantly, this fixture offers a chance to stop the slide. It also provides an opportunity to restore pride in the jersey.
