Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe’s Bail Application Postponed to Thursday

The bail application for Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe and his co-accused, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, has been postponed by the Alexandra Magistrates Court.

The two men briefly appeared in court on Tuesday morning, where the matter was delayed to allow the defence team time to examine outstanding documents expected from the State.

Facing Multiple Charges

Chatunga, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, is facing a string of serious allegations. These include attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a shooting incident at the family’s Hyde Park residence in Johannesburg. A 23-year-old gardener was reportedly left in critical condition after being shot during a dispute at the property.

Police Intervention at Hyde Park Home

According to reports, the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded after being alerted by private security personnel. Officers were required to make a forceful entry into the high-walled premises as part of their response to the incident.

Immigration Charge Added

In a further development, an additional charge relating to an alleged breach of South Africa’s immigration laws has reportedly been added to Chatunga’s charge sheet.

His legal representatives have requested clarity from the prosecution regarding the specifics of this new allegation.

The matter is expected to return to court on Thursday, when the bail application will resume.
