Husband Snaps During Family Mediation, Wife Fatally Stabbed In Beitbridge
A family mediation meant to resolve a troubled marriage ended in tragedy after a man allegedly turned violent and fatally stabbed his wife in Beitbridge on Sunday. The shocking incident unfolded during a meeting between relatives, where divorce had been proposed as a solution to a long-running dispute.
The case centres on a 56-year-old man from Malala village, identified as Mukhosi Shadreck Mulaudzi Muthavhatsindi, and his wife, who had been living in South Africa before returning to Zimbabwe on April 24, 2026.
Mediation Turns Deadly
According to the Sunday News, the couple had travelled back separately to their respective rural homes amid escalating tensions. Efforts to reconcile them culminated in a family gathering at Matshiloni village on April 26.
Police confirmed that a traditional intermediary, referred to as a “Munyai/Idombo (go-between),” was present to help facilitate discussions between the two families.
Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, the officer commanding Beitbridge, detailed how the situation deteriorated.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple was staying together in South Africa and they returned to Zimbabwe on April 24. Upon arrival, the suspect went to his home in Malala while the now deceased went to her maiden home in Matshiloni due to a long-standing domestic dispute,” he said.
He added that tensions escalated when the woman’s relatives suggested ending the marriage.
“During deliberations, the wife’s relatives suggested that the couple should settle for a divorce since they had failed to reach an amicable agreement over a longer period. This did not go down well with the suspect and an argument ensued.”
Sudden Attack At Homestead
Police say the argument quickly spiralled out of control.
Chief Supt Ncube explained that the suspect allegedly became aggressive and pursued his wife as she attempted to flee.
“The suspect stood up and charged towards his wife, who ran away and hid behind one of the houses at the homestead. He later caught up with her and stabbed her once on the left side of the chest.”
The woman reportedly screamed before collapsing. She died at the scene.
Mob Intervenes As Suspect Flees
After the alleged stabbing, the suspect reportedly attempted to escape from the homestead. However, members of the community quickly mobilised and intercepted him.
“The suspect bolted from the scene but was pursued by a mob who managed to apprehend him, and the matter was subsequently reported to the police,” said Chief Supt Ncube.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and awaiting his initial court appearance. The victim’s body has been taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The case remains under investigation.
