14 People Killed, Dozens Injured in Bus Accident Along Harare–Nyamapanda Highway

14 people died after a long-distance luxury bus they were travelling in was involved in a crash along the Harare–Nyamapanda Highway on Tuesday.

The accident occurred in the afternoon near Suswe, leaving dozens injured and prompting an emergency response.

Malawi-Bound Coach Crashes at 176km Peg Near Suswe

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident happened at the 176-kilometre peg at around 13:00.

The bus, identified as a Malawi-bound BRD Luxury Coach, had been travelling from Cape Town when it was involved in the crash.

Police Statement

In a statement, police confirmed the scale of the tragedy:

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred this afternoon at 176 km peg along the Harare – Nyamapanda road near Suswe. A Malawi bound BRD Luxury Coach bus, which was coming from Cape Town, South Africa had an accident near Suswe at around 1300 hours. Initial police attended at the scene indicated that 14 people died. The bus was carrying 63 passengers and some of the injured victims were taken to Mutoko District Hospital and Kotwa District Hospital. More details will be released in due course, reads the police statement.

Dozens Injured, Fears Toll Could Rise

Authorities said the coach was carrying 63 passengers at the time, raising concerns that the death toll could increase as some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Survivors were rushed to nearby medical facilities, including Mutoko District Hospital and Kotwa District Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
