ZERA Maintains Fuel Prices as Government Cushions Consumers From Global Oil Shocks

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has maintained fuel prices at current levels following its latest monthly review, offering motorists and businesses relief despite continued volatility on the global oil market.

In a statement released on Wednesday, ZERA confirmed that the price of Diesel 50 remains pegged at US$2.09 per litre, while Blend E20 petrol will continue selling at US$2.08 per litre with effect from 20 May 2026.

Government Measures Cushion Consumers

According to the energy regulator, the unchanged prices have been made possible through government interventions aimed at protecting consumers from the impact of global geopolitical tensions affecting fuel markets.

“The prices remain unchanged, as Government interventions continue to cushion consumers from global geopolitical effects,” ZERA said.

The authority also reminded fuel operators that the current blending ratio remains at E20.

Fuel Operators Allowed to Sell Below Cap

ZERA said service stations are permitted to charge lower prices depending on their commercial advantages, although they must clearly display fuel prices in line with existing regulations.

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is at E20. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations,” the authority said.

Global Oil Market Remains Volatile

The latest review comes at a time when international fuel and crude oil prices have remained under pressure due to escalating geopolitical instability in the Middle East.

Global energy markets recorded sharp increases during the first half of 2026 as tensions in the region disrupted supply chains and heightened fears of possible shortages.
