Convoy Targeted After NEC Meeting

According to his spokesperson, Keith Khoza, Mashatile’s vehicle was struck by bullets as the convoy made its way from the meeting.

Although the exact number of shots remains unconfirmed, reports suggest that up to 12 spent cartridges were found at the scene.

“We can confirm that there was an incident in which the car of the deputy president was hit.”

“The police are best placed to respond to the question; however, I can confirm that we have a report confirming from an expert that these were bullets.”

Car Hit by Bullets on the Windscreen

Khoza stated that the attack involved the vehicle being hit by objects on the windscreen, which have since been confirmed to be bullets.

Fortunately, the deputy president was unharmed thanks to the bulletproof nature of the vehicle.

He added, “Mashatile is under the protection of the SAPS VIP protection unit, so the matter naturally fell into their hands.”

Police Launch Joint Investigation

The South African Police Service (SAPS), working with the Presidential Protection Unit, has launched a joint investigation into the incident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed who may have been behind the attack, but the investigation is being treated with urgency.
