In Chihota’s Gadzikwa village, kombi operators ho were friends and collegues of a deceased person took his body to the accused’s home. Kombi operators and conductors transported the deceased Tendai Nenguwo’s body to the rural home of Crispen Marara, the former police officer accused of his murder.
“This matter remains before the criminal courts, and no one has the right to take justice into their own hands,” Chief Nenguwo stated. “Bringing a corpse to someone’s home as if resolving the case independently violates our customs and laws.”

The Nenguwo family has distanced themselves from the controversial act, claiming it was orchestrated by the deceased’s colleagues without their full consent. A family representative, who requested anonymity, revealed their distress:
“We’re facing compounded grief – mourning our loss while now dealing with potential fines from the chief’s court. The young men acted impulsively in their anger, and we must now face the consequences.”

The tragic events stem from a January altercation where Marara and four accomplices allegedly assaulted Nenguwo over missing tenant payments totaling $560. After months of hospitalization, Nenguwo succumbed to his injuries on April 13.
While Marara currently faces murder charges in formal courts, his alleged accomplices remain at large. The community remains deeply divided as traditional and legal processes unfold simultaneously.
