The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has cautioned local clubs over the unlawful removal of players from official squad lists.
The union said several reports suggest some clubs are deregistering players without first informing or consulting them.
As a result, FUZ reminded clubs that football contracts remain legally binding throughout their duration.
“It has come to our attention that certain clubs have been unilaterally deregistering players from official squad lists without the players’ prior knowledge, consent, or consultation during the current registration window,” the statement read.
The union explained that removing players without their approval or a mutual settlement violates the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP).
FUZ says players’ rights must be protected
Furthermore, FUZ stressed that such actions threaten contractual stability across Zimbabwean football.
The union added that unlawful deregistration also damages players’ careers, income and personal well-being.
It argued that clubs must always engage players before making decisions affecting their registration status.
According to FUZ, bypassing consultation represents a serious breach of football regulations and professional trust.
Union promises action against offending clubs
Meanwhile, FUZ vowed to take firm action against clubs that ignore the regulations.
The players’ body said it would not tolerate clubs that remove players without following the correct procedures.
It also warned that clubs could face legal consequences for unilateral deregistration.
Any club that deregisters a player without documented mutual consent or a valid sporting reason may become liable for financial losses suffered by that player, FUZ said.
